Meet Our Founder
Ben grew up in Long Beach, California, and spent his formative years navigating the cultural contrasts between the bustling city and the serene mountains of Colfax, where he finished high school. His early experiences included surfing at Huntington Beach and enjoying the outdoors, which shaped his love for adventure. Following the devastating events of 9/11, Ben joined the U.S. Army, motivated and driven to serve in the military. He became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, specializing in communications as a switch operator. His deployments included significant time in Iraq, where he played a crucial role in working communication networks in combat zones.
After his military service from 2002 to 2006, Ben transitioned to the trucking industry in Southern California, climbing his way up and eventually running his own company before selling it a few years ago. His experiences in leadership and teamwork during his military career laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial success and lifelong values.
In response to the challenges faced by veterans after leaving service, including issues related to mental health and substance abuse, Ben started the Satterlee Foundation. His desire was to focus on providing resources and support for veterans and their families, aiming to address the ongoing struggles many face after returning home. Ben is a proud husband and a father of three boys, who excel academically and athletically, a source of immense pride for him. He actively involves his family in his philanthropic efforts, striving to make a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans and their loved ones. Ben envisions expanding the Satterlee Foundation on a national level, aiming to reach more veterans in need through a network of ambassadors throughout the United States. His dedication to serving those who served continues to drive his mission, ensuring that no veteran feels alone in their struggles. He serves as a reminder to us all that we have the opportunity and ability to support the people around us.
